Singapore-style Bak Kut Teh
A comforting, peppery herbal soup made with Bak Kut Teh spices
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 60–70 minutes
Servings: 2–3 servings
Ingredients
* 1 pkt Churo Pork Loin Ribs 500g / Churo Pork Spare Ribs 500g
* 10 cloves garlic (lightly crushed, keep whole)
* 1 packet Bak Kut Teh spices
* 2000 ml water
Preparation
1) Bring a pot of water to a boil.
2) Add the pork ribs and boil for 5 minutes to remove impurities.
3) Remove the ribs and rinse thoroughly under running water.
4) Set aside.
Cooking Instructions
1) In a clean pot, add 2000 ml water and bring to a boil over high heat.
2) Add the rinsed pork ribs, garlic cloves, and 1 packet of Bak Kut Teh spices.
3) Once the soup comes to a boil, reduce heat to medium.
4) Let it simmer for 1 hour.
* For a stronger, more intense flavour, simmer for 1 hour 10 minutes.
5) Taste and adjust only if needed.
Serving Suggestions
* Serve hot with steamed rice.
* Pair with youtiao (fried dough sticks), tofu puffs, or blanched vegetables.
* Enjoy as a nourishing meal on its own.
Notes
* No additional seasoning is required, as the Bak Kut Teh spices are well balanced.
* Garlic cloves can be eaten whole for added sweetness and depth of flavour.
